Thermal strength
Thermal strength is shown by background colors on the map:
Background colors:
- No colors: No working thermals
- Blue: < 1 m/s, weak thermals, stay
high if you can.
- Green: 1-2 m/s. Good enough for x-country
flight.
- Yellow: 2-2.5 m/s. Good weather.
- Orange: 2.5-3 m/s. Great thermals.
- Red: > 3m/s. Very good thermals. Take
a day off and soar.
- Purple: > 4m/s. If you didn't fly when red, now is the time...
Digit colors:
Convergence:
- Orange digits can hint
about enhanced climb lines
- Blue digits: tendency to lower climb
than background color suggests.
Thermal height
Thermal height is written on the map in 100-meters levels above
sea level (MSL).
Should be read as minimum thermalling height. Cu may give more thermalling
height.
