Flight distance
Flight distance calculations for the whole day.
Calculations starts when thermal reaches 1000m AGL and thermal strength over 1m/s and stops when below the same limits. This means that a local 30 minute shower will force the forecast to a "landing" at that area but the x-country pilot might be able to fly around the same shower and continue the flight.
Calculated for a 15m glider with water ballast and adjusted for thermal strength, thermal height, convergence and wind.
Note: The calculations have about 30 minutes spare time build in and the forecast should be read as "realistic flight distance". This means that the experienced x-country pilot can quite easily plan a task that spans over longer distances than indicated here, based on weather experiences and local experiences.
